New atrium takes shape

New atrium takes shape

For many visitors to bamberg, the view of the atrium is one of their first impressions after getting off the train. Those who already live here, however, could only shake their heads for years over the almost empty mammoth building in a prominent location. That changed eleven months ago. With the plans for the "new atrium the hope for a revival of the giant real estate came back.

After years of standstill, the new owner, the eyemaxx group, had created a "wonderful ray of hope in the railroad station sky," and not just for the mayor of the city of andreas stark (SPD) shown. Architect matthias bornhofen presented some surprising changes for the 60-million-euro project at an early stage. The building is to be slimmed down by 14 meters by removing one of the connecting grids. Green oases are to be created on the then much wider sidewalk. Bornhofen also wants to "remove the storied structures and make the building more open".

Juice scales and pruning

Around 30 hobby gardeners took part in the fruit tree pruning course organized by the westheim association for horticulture and landscape gardening. Certified gardener edwin fella had a lot of advice to offer. Kick-off was the preservation of tree health. Lichen growth does not damage the tree, fella emphasized. Lichens are a sign of good air quality.
Medlars, on the other hand, are parasites that weaken the tree and must be kept in check. When it comes to planting fruit trees, "frustration and pleasure begin with the choice of location". The proximity to other plants and woods must also be taken into account, for example, thuja plants challenge pear lattice rust, and when planting biennial fruit trees such as sub-cherries, attention must be paid to the proximity of suitable pollinators.
The tree crown must allow light and air to enter, so the rule of thumb for pruning fruit trees, according to fella, is: "remove anything that is crisscrossed, dead, growing too steeply upwards, or growing ruber towards the neighbor." Those present learned what the sap scale means when pruning fruit trees and that the first eight years of a fruit tree's life are the most important: "what hanschen doesn't learn …". In the young tree, pruning shapes the tree architecture in the form of a pyramid.
If the pruning is too severe and if aste is not cut close enough to the trunk, water shoots will occur. In summer, when they are soft, they can simply be twisted out by hand at the base. In conservation pruning, the predefined tree growth form is maintained and light pruning is done.
More severe rejuvenation pruning can be done on old trees. To optimize the fruit harvest, fella advises reducing the use of pesticides to a minimum and instead calling for beneficial plants. One to two bird nesting boxes and one insect hotel per garden are sufficient. With a starling rafter in the nesting box of a cherry tree, other birds are prevented from plundering the cherries.
The participants were also instructed in the refinement techniques of fruit woods. The participants learned that good tools are essential for all work. Due to the high level of interest, the board is planning an extra course in 2019 on the refinement of fruit woods or a cutting course for precious woods.

Munnerstadt: saving the city from traffic gridlock

The relief road is now as much a part of munnerstadt as the historic city center. It was not so long ago that all traffic was forced through the city center, and at that time traffic jams formed in the city’s thoroughfare. 30 years ago in august, the first passable section of the new municipal relief road was opened to traffic. This did not mean any real relief for the traffic-plagued old town, because the relief road from the reichenbacher strabe intersection only went as far as the northern entrance to the town at the meininger strabe/coburger strabe intersection. But the first hurdle was completed, including the bruckenau in the laueraue.

The city representatives, however, had actually slept through the date of this semi-official partial opening. Half an hour was spent waiting for the mayor, and munnerstadter hildegard dallner even brought a bottle of champagne to celebrate the day, according to an edition of the munnerstadter zeitung from august 1989. At some point, the representatives of the construction company decided to carry away the traffic signs themselves. The strabe could be used from then on, even without the mayor’s blessing.

Eu data protection rules still cause uncertainty

Eu data protection rules still cause uncertainty

Almost 100 days after coming into force, the new EU data protection rules are still causing uncertainty. "Interpretation and interpretation require a certain amount of time," digital expert lina ehrig from the verbraucherzentrale bundesverband told the german press agency.

Businesses are naturally trying to interpret the rules more broadly than consumer associations. "In practice we will see how this develops." The basic data protection regulation (gdp) has been in effect for 100 days this weekend.
